Help Pflugerville Police Secure Important Grant By Voting

Pflugerville Police Department is sole Texas finalist in the Aftermath Why We Serve 2018 Grant program, and need your vote.

PFLUGERVILLE, TX — The Pflugerville Police Department is the sole Texas finalist in the Aftermath Why We Serve 2018 Grant program, officials said Tuesday.

Given that status, the Pflugerville Police Department asks residents to vote from now through July 27 — every day, if possible — to help Pflugerville receive a scholarship to support the Blue Guardian Program, a mentorship program between the police and the Texas Baptist Children’s Home, officials said. The Pflugerville Police Department and the Texas Baptist Children’s Home joined forces to bring the program to Pflugerville, and the Round Rock Police Department has since joined the efforts to bridge connections with the youth at the Children’s Home, officials added.

Last year Pflugerville received a $1,000 grant from Aftermath after placing third in the nation in a similar online voting initiative. Residents are asked to log in daily to the webpage bit.ly/2JhcXjH and to scroll to Pflugerville Chief Robledo, hit vote and scroll down to SUBMIT. Your votes get Pflugerville one step closer to a grant to support the Blue Guardian Program.

The Pflugerville Police Department and Texas Baptist Children’s Home formed a partnership in December 2017 under the Blue Guardian program in order to provide healing through mentorships. Blue Guardian was created by Pflugerville Police Chief Jessica Robledo during her time as Assistant Chief with the Austin Police Department, and pairs police officers with foster children to build bridges through relationships.

“Our hope is to establish positive connections with children who may have had previous contact with officers during emergencies or other traumatic incidents,” said Chief Jessica Robledo. “Blue Guardian allows them to get to know the person behind the badge and the heart that our officers have. We play basketball, volunteer at events such as Blue Santa pickup together and try to open communications with the children staying at the Texas Baptist Children Home. Your vote for the Aftermath grant will help this cause. I appreciate it.”
