Julie Oliver Gets Dem Nod For 25th Congressional District Race

Oliver, 45, got 52.2 percent of the vote in runoff against Chris Perri to face off against Republican incumbent Roger Williams in November.

AUSTIN, TX — Democrat Julie Oliver on Tuesday secured the nomination of her party to face the 25th congressional district incumbent, U.S. Rep. Roger Williams, in the November election.

Oliver, 45, an attorney, emerged as the victor in Tuesday night's runoff elections with 52.2 percent of the vote. Her challenger in the Democratic runoff, Chris Perri, secured 47.8 percent of the vote. Perri works as a defense attorney. Oliver worked as a controller for St. David's HealthCare from February 2008 until March 2018 when she took a formal leave of absence from the organization to focus on her campaign.

Both had sought for their party's nomination to unseat Williams, the Republican incumbent who has emerged as a vocal supporter of Donald Trump. The district he currently represents is an expansive one stretching from Wimberly to the edges of Fort Work into the Austin neighborhoods of Lakeway, Rollingwood, West Lake Hills and others.

Williams has aligned himself to Trump's polices, emerging as a vocal supporter. The day before the election on Tuesday, he appeared on the Fox television program Mornings with Maria to tout the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act recently spearheaded by congressional Republicans in enacting it four months ago, crediting the legislation for the 3.9 percent unemployment rate, a purported 90 percent level of Americans seeing higher paychecks and what he labeled as the "best month in history for the U.S. budget" with more than $190 billion in revenue, according to the Congressional Budget Office.
