Juvenile Arrested After Fire Set At Pflugerville High School

The minor was taken into custody Tuesday evening in connection to a morning fire at an upstairs bathroom.

PFLUGERVILLE, TX — Police took a juvenile into custody Tuesday evening in connection with a small fire earlier in the day inside a bathroom at Pflugerville High School, officials said.

The high school was evacuated after smoke was discovered in an upstairs bathroom at around 8:30 a.m., police said in a news release. The custody came after a joint investigation between the Pflugerville Independent School District Police Department and the Pflugerville Police Department, officials said.

The juvenile arrested in connection with the fire was charged with first-degree arson and was taken to the Gardner Betts Juvenile Detention Center. Police said they believe the incident to be an isolated one, but the investigation is ongoing.

After the fire was discovered, all those in the building and students who were just arriving to school were all moved to the Kuempel Stadium after the initial fire alarms, officials said. No injuries were reported, and the inconvenienced students were provided with water and sack lunches while waiting for the police investigation to conclude, according to school officials.

While some parents chose to pick up their children from school during the investigation, those remaining were relocated to the school's gym at around 12:45 p.m. and returned to their classrooms by 2:45 p.m., officials said.
