Here are the top stories today in North Austin-Pflugerville:
- The month of February is filled with events in Pflugerville and surrounding areas. One such event that is happening right here in town is the annual Pflugerville Lions Club chili supper. The event will take place on Friday, Feb. 11 from 5-8 p.m. at the Lions Club Hall, located at 500 N. Railroad Ave. Besides delicious chili, desserts will also be sold, and a raffle for a large screen TV will be held as well. Cost for the event is $10 at the door. Proceeds from the event will support local families that are in need of assistance. For more information, call 512-251-5466 and visit: (Yahoo News)
- So many new eateries are opening soon in the Austin area, and one of them is even opening on Valentine's Day! Why not consider taking your significant other there or at one of the other new venues for dinner that night? The restaurant that is opening on Feb. 14 is "Wax Myrtle's — the chic indoor/outdoor pool-adjacent bar and restaurant located on the fourth floor at the newly opened Thompson Austin and tommie Austin hotels." Nate McCabe, director of food and beverage said, "Wax Myrtle's is a refined yet laid-back space where we hope guests can come in and lose themselves for a while, whether they want to have a meal, grab a drink, get some sun, or catch a live performance in our events space. Our food offerings are simply prepared Mediterranean dishes (with a local twist), paired with a curated beverage program of seasonal cocktails full of both familiar and surprising regional ingredients and flavors. We've got an amazing team ready to welcome Austin to our downtown oasis!" To make your reservations, visit Resy and learn more about other local venues at: (CultureMap Austin)
- Thanks to a group of local Girl Scouts, police were able to catch a hit-and-run suspect in Pflugerville. The automobile crash occurred on Sunday, Feb. 6 on FM 685 and East Pflugerville Parkway. When police officers arrived, "an 82-year-old man was still at the scene complaining of a chest injury," but the "driver involved in the crash had fled the scene and had gone towards a nearby Walgreen's parking lot." When they were looking for him in the parking lot, "they encountered a group of Girl Scouts who were selling cookies in front of the store" and asked them if they had seen him. They replied that they saw him enter the store, and when they went inside, they found him buying some items. He said he left the scene because "he was nervous and wanted to use the phone." His name is James Crawford and he's 41 years old, and he "faces a misdemeanor charge for failure to stop, causing bodily injury, and causing damage to a vehicle exceeding $200." As for the 82-year-old man, he "was taken to the hospital and is expected to be OK." For more details visit: (FOX 7 Austin)
