Man Faces Murder Charge In North Austin Killing

Cornell Loving, 49, arrested in the death of Dennis Stoneburner, 63, and police are offering $1K reward for tips leading to his conviction.

NORTH AUSTIN, TEXAS — An Austin man faces a murder charge following his arrest last month related to the death of another man with whom he got into an altercation, police said Friday.

Cornell Loving, 49, was arrested on Oct. 27 for the murder of Dennis Stoneburner in an incident that took place at 9133 Northgate Blvd. just before 6 p.m. Members of the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force effected the arrest, Austin police noted in a press advisory.

When police responded to the crime scene on Oct. 3, they found Stoneburner with obvious trauma throughout his body. Medics rushed him to St. David's Round Rock Medical Center, police said, where he succumbed to his injuries on Oct. 19. It's unclear why the two men had gotten into an altercation, officials noted, and the nature of his injuries has not been disclosed.

"The cause of death is still being determined so I don’t have any specifics on that," a police spokesperson told Patch in a response to questions about the case. "The main purpose of the updated release is to let folks know about the reward that is now being offered and to encourage anyone with information about the assault to come forward."

Because Loving fled the scene, police later issued video footage of the incident from a nearby surveillance camera in the hopes someone might provide information helpful to their investigation. Now in custody, Loving is facing charges for parole violation and first degree murder, with bond set at $500,000. A reward is being offered to anyone with information leading to a conviction.
