Man, Infant Injured In North Austin Shooting
Late Sunday shooting on Wooten Park Drive left man slightly hurt and child in critical condition with potentially life-threatening wounds.
NORTH AUSTIN, TEXAS — An overnight shooting left a man and his infant child critically injured in North Austin late Sunday, officials said.
The shooting occurred just past 11:10 p.m. along the 1800 block of Wooten Park Drive at the Garden Villa apartments. According to reports, a man and an infant under the age of two were injured after someone shot through the front door of the apartment.
The Hispanic man in his 20s who was injured has since been released from the hospital, officials said, but the child remains in critical condition. Austin-Travis County EMS officials have categorized the child's injuries as "potentially life-threatening."

A police officer who briefed reporters early Monday morning did not categorize the shooting as a "drive-by" variety, but said the incident appears to be an "isolated" one. When police use that term, it usually means the victims and suspects in such incidents know each other. The officer added a woman was in the apartment at the time of the shooting, but was unharmed. Rather than a drive-by shooting, the officer suggested the shooter(s) fired at the victims before speeding off in a vehicle.
Police ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at (512) 472-8477.
