Police ID Both Victim And Suspect In Weekend Fatal Shooting [UPDATE]

The killing occurred in the high-crime Rundberg area that's accounted for 12 percent of city's total violent crimes in the past 10 years.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX -- Police on Monday identified both the victim and suspect in a fatal shooting that occurred in the early hours of this past Saturday..

Juan Jose Casimiro-Paxtor, 26, was identified as the man fatally wounded in the shooting that occurred in the 800 block of Fairfield Drive shortly after 4 a.m. on May 14. Officers found the man on the ground and undertook life-saving measures to no avail, as the man died at the scene.

The suspect was identified as Mario Garcia-Faustino, 26.

Witnesses told police that Garcia-Faustino became upset during a conversation with the victim, and left the apartment where both of them were drinking with other people. According to police, Garcia-Faustino later returned with a gun and shot the victim.

The suspect had not been arrested as of late Monday, but a warrant has been issued for his arrest on a murder charge with a bond set at $75,000.

"Garcia-Faustino has not been arrested at this time and his location is currently unknown," police said in a press advisory.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX -- Police continue to search for a suspect in an early-morning shooting Saturday that left a man in his 20s dead.

The incident occurred at about 4:15 a.m. at the Chateau Avalon Apartment at 883 Fairfield Drive, the Austin American-Statesman reported. Emergency crews attempted to save the victim, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police said the victim is a Hispanic man in his 20s who was seen driving off in a white Mazda.

Police told the Statesman the victim and his friends were gathered on his porch when the suspect approached them and shot the victim in the leg. As the injured man walked toward the suspect, the was fired upon again but this time in the chest, police said.

The Statesman noted the shooting occurred in the five-square-mile Rundberg area of the city, which has accounted for 12 percent of Austin's total violent crime over the past 10 years.

This is the third shooting in North Austin in two weeks. On May 7 last Saturday, two men were seriously injured after being shot in the 8800 block of Research Boulevard at about 4 p.m. The next day at 2:28 am., three people were injured and one killed after a shooting in the 8600 block of Lamar Boulevard.

In April in the 1400 block of East Rundberg Lane, a man was shot at a mobile home park. A man in his 20s was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
