Man Shoots Self During Standoff With Police In North Austin

Police responded to the 4300 block of Canyonside Trail on Sunday morning after report of shots fired, according to Austin Police Department.

AUSTIN, TX — A man is hospitalized for treatment of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a standoff with police in Northwest Austin Sunday morning, according to a published report.

The police SWAT team was called out to the 4300 block of Canyonside Trail shortly after 9 a.m. for a report of shots fired. A woman emerged from the house, but the male suspect in his 60s refused to exit the dwelling, the Austin American-Statesman reported.

During the standoff with police, another shot was heard at 10:30 a.m. That's when EMS and SWAT officials moved in to find the man injured with a gunshot wound, according to the report.

The man was rushed to University Medical Center Brackenridge in critical condition, police told the newspaper. A "reverse 911" mass message was relayed to nearby residents in updating them when it was safe, which occurred at around 11:30 a.m. when the incident ended.

Police provided no further details.
