Man Shot Dead In North Austin Robbery Attempt
Police said Joseph Anthony Aguilar Campos, 32, was fatally shot after being confronted by a group of acquaintances.
NORTH AUSTIN, TX — A man found fatally shot in his car that had crashed into a tree on Friday was the likely victim of a robbery attempt, police said.
Police responded to the 11800 block of North Lamar Boulevard just before 2 a.m. on Friday, June 28, amid reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found the man unresponsive in the wreckage of his car after he crashed into a tree.
Despite life-saving efforts, the man succumbed to his injuries, and was pronounced dead at 2:18 a.m. Police identified him as Joseph Anthony Aguilar Campos, 32.

Police learned from witnesses the possible motive behind the shooting was robbery, and the victim and suspects who may have known each other engaged in a gun battle in the confrontation. Witnesses described seeing two Hispanic men and a Hispanic woman in a white sedan with a black hood, along with two other Hispanic men in a dark-colored sedan fleeing from the scene in the shooting's aftermath. Police continue trying to identify and locate those individuals, the Austin Police Department said in an advisory.
