Man Wanted In Fatal New Braunfels Crash In Austin Police Custody

Austin Meade, 26, eluded local police after being accused of fleeing the scene of a Comal County crash that took a woman's life.

AUSTIN, TEXAS — The man previously identified as the person responsible in a fatal crash on Wednesday in New Braunfels, Texas, has turned himself in to police, Austin officials said Friday.

Police previously identified Austin Meade, 26, of North Las Vegas, as the person who fled the scene of a collision. In a Friday morning tweet, police said he had turned himself in after eluding police in a vehicle pursuit in Southeast Austin following the crash.

In a tweet issued just before 10:30 a.m. on Friday, local police said Meade had turned himself in at the police substation on 506 W. Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard, and is now in custody. He faces a felony murder charge, with bond set at $1 million, police previously said. New Braunfels police hinted if additional charges might be assessed given the aggravated robbery that occurred after the collision after accusations that Meade stole a vehicle to effect his getaway.
