Police ID East Powell Lane Shooting Suspect [UPDATED]

JonCasey William Rowell, 29, is behind bars charged with first-degree murder after days on the run.

NORTH AUSTIN-PFLUGERVILLE, TX -- Police have arrested a suspect in an early-morning shooting last week that left another man dead.

Austin Police Department officials have named JonCasey William Rowell, 29, as the alleged shooter. He’s been charged with murder in the first degree, and is currently in the Travis County Jail with bond set at $250,000.

Rowell’s arrest stems from a call about a shooting/stabbing to which police responded on Jan. 22 at about 3 a.m. Once on the scene in the 300 block of East Powell Lane, police found the victim on the ground, suffering from trauma.

Police on Tuesday identified the victim as David Loera, 43. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, but succumbed to his wounds shortly after the incident.

Rowell was arrested by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, APD officials said. He had been on the run since the incident, and police issued details related to his physical description as they sought help from the public.

NORTH AUSTIN-PFLUGERVILLE, TX -- Police have identified the man killed last week after being shot in the early morning of last Friday.

The homicide victim has been identified as David Loera, 43.

At about 3 a.m. on Jan. 22, police responded to the 300 block of East Powell Lane following reports of a shooting/stabbing incident. Once there, they found the victim on the ground.

Emergency crews transported the wounded Loera to the University Medical Center at Brackenridge Hospital where he later died. His death has been ruled a homicide.
A suspect has yet to be found. He’s described as a white male in his 20s, 5’ 11” to 6’ in height with a slightly muscular build. He was last seen wearing a camouflage hat, brown vest, dark-sleeved undershirt and dark pants.

The suspect’s vehicle is described as a newer model, dark-colored Chevrolet four-door truck, possibly a 4X4.

NORTH AUSTIN-PFLUGERVILLE, TX -- Police continue to search for a suspect in a deadly shooting early Friday morning.

An Austin Police Department spokesman told KVUE-TV a m. a shooting occurred in the 8200 block of North Interstate 35 at Powell Lane at about 3 a.m.

The news station reports two men were having a conversation outside the North Austin home before shots were fired. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he later died of his wounds.

Witnesses said they didn’t recognize the shooter as anyone familiar to the neighborhood.

They described the suspect as a Caucasian male of muscular build in his 20s, with light facial stubble. The suspect is about 5’ 11” in height, according to witnesses.

At the time of the shooting, the suspect was wearing a camouflage hat, brown vest, dark jeans and a dark long-sleeved shirt, according to witness accounts.

Police said the suspect was driving a black, late model, four-door Chevrolet.
