Mother-Daughter Duo Named As Suspects In Illegal North Austin Game Room Killing

Lestelle Scott, 47, and Shalonda Scott, 23, wanted on charges of capital murder related to the fatal shooting death of Ga Young Chon.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — Police have identified more suspects in the fatal shooting of woman the past summer at an illegal North Austin game room.

Austin police this week said the mother-daughter duo of Lestelle Scott, 47, and Shalonda Scott, 23, are wanted on charges of capital murder related to the fatal shooting death of Ga Young Chon, according to arrest affidavits cited by the Austin American-Statesman in a report.

Police said they believe Chon owned and managed the game room located along the 900 block of Wagon Trail. Shalonda and her boyfriend, identified by police as David McKinley, robbed the game room on Aug. 8 around 10:30 p.m., just before the illegal parlor closed for the day, according to arrest affidavits.

Police say the elder Scott new a robbery was about to go down, but initially told police she spotted her daughter and her boyfriend fighting about entering the premises after being refused entry, according to the report. She then told police she heard several shots but wasn't able to locate her daughter or her boyfriend.

After investigating the scene, police saw that Chon had been fatally shot in the neck inside the room and two men were wounded during the violent incident. The younger Scott was transported to St. David's Medical Center in downtown Austin by individuals who scurried off after leaving her there, police said.

McKinley was subsequently arrested last August, and police said he confessed to the robbery with his girlfriend. McKinley reportedly told police that the mother-and-daughter team of accomplices repeatedly urged him to commit the robbery, according to the affidavits cited by the Statesman.

A check of Travis County Jail records show McKinley is still being detained there.
