North Austin Elementary School Closed Indefinitely Due To Deterioration Of Floors
The majority of the 360 students will be bused to facility in far East Austin -- a 45-minute bus trip in peak traffic hours.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX -- T.A. Brown Elementary school in North Austin, which was closed abruptly on Thursday, will remain closed indefinitely, according to a published report.
The floor under the classroom wings and cafeteria is deteriorated to the point that it could potentially collapse, Austin ISD officials told the Austin American-Statesman.
“We’re not going to use the facility again, Superintendent Paul Cruz told the newspaper. "That we do know."

Engineers buttressed the superintendent's assessment, saying the damage to the school is too costly to fix.
What does this mean for the school's 360 students? They will be divided between a pair of other facilities: Pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students will now be attending Reilly Elementary school located some two miles away.

The structural issues were discovered as part of an ongoing assessment of district schools, the Statesman noted. On Thursday evening, district officials notified parents classes would be cancelled until further notice..
