North Austin Fire Displaces Residents In 24 Apartments

Residents in 24 North Austin apartments have been displaced after an early morning fire on Tuesday, according to fire officials.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX – Residents in 24 North Austin apartments have been displaced after an early morning fire on Tuesday, according to fire officials.

Emergency crews responded to 600 Barwood Park and found a fire in a third-floor apartment that had extended into the attic. Once the fire had been extinguished, residents were evacuated so investigators could evaluate the electrical system in the apartment building.

According to the Austin Fire Twitter account, the department is now working with the Red Cross and apartment building management to locate temporary housing for the displaced residents.

Officials said the cause of the fire was improperly discarded smoking material. The fire caused $200,000 in structure damage and $50,000 in content damage.
