North Austin Golf Store's Upcoming Closure Means Big Savings For Those Hitting The Links

Golfsmith store chain bankruptcy prompts chain to discount golf merchandise by up to 30 percent as it liquidates inventory.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX --Attention golf aficionados (with apologies in advance, golf widows): The Golfsmith store in North Austin is closing by year's after its purchase by a rival, meaning that merchandise is being steeply discounted as it prepares for eventual closure.

The Austin-based retailer is emerging from its bankruptcy reorganization, including letting the store at 11000 Middle Fisfkville Rd. be purchased by rival Dick's Sporting Goods as part of its liquidation of 59 stores nationwide.

It's bad for them, yes. But for golf fans, the existing merchandise at the store has been marked down by up to 30 percent at last check. All told, some $80 million worth of golf merchandise is being liquidated, according to Hilco Merchant Resources which is helping the liquidation process along.

The other local store at 10001 Research Blvd. in the area surrounding the Arboretum area will remain open for the time being, according to reports.

For those holding Golfsmith gift cards, you better cash them in quick: Hilco says they're redeemable through Nov. 11, which is right around the corner.
