North Austin Homicide Victim Identified

As police were investigating killing on Justin Lane, another nearby shooting at North Lamar Boulevard resulted in serious injury.

AUSTIN, TX — Police on Monday identified the victim of a homicide who died over the weekend.

Just before 1:35 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 29, police were dispatched to an apartment at 1003 Justin Lane amid reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, police found a man inside a vehicle with obvious trauma throughout his body.

The shooting victim, Andrew Jyaire Bass, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene.

While officers were investigating, a nearby call came in for a second male with gunshot wounds at 6640 N. Lamar Blvd., police said in a press advisory. The victim of that shooting was transported to a local hospital by Austin-Travis County EMS where he remains in serious condition, police said.

Austin homicide detectives and crime scene units processed the scene and interviewed witnesses. Investigators learned that the actual shooting occurred at 1003 Justin Lane where it appears that Bass and an associate attempted to rob a resident during a drug transaction, police said.
