North Austin Police Standoff Ends Peacefully
Man Reportedly was threatening to harm himself inside his car, prompting an hours-long negotiation that led to surrender.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — A police standoff with a man barricaded in his car ended peacefully late Sunday after several hours of negotiations, police said.
The incident occurred just before 10:20 p.m. outside an apartment complex at 11901 Hobby Horse Court, according to a police officer who briefed reporters late Sunday. The area is not far from the Domain Northside mixed-use development.
According to police, officers responded to the scene amid reports the man was threatening to harm himself with a weapon. At one point, the man tried to flee in the vehicle before being stopped by police, according to the officer's summary of events.

Ultimately, at close to 2 a.m., the man surrendered to police without incident by voluntarily exiting the vehicle, according to the report. Charges against the man weren't immediately filed in lieu of medical treatment for evaluation, according to police. The officer briefing reporters declined to identify whether a weapon was discovered, declining to say if it was a gun.
The officer also declined to provide an age and description for the man, citing medical privacy provisions.
