North Austin Shooting Leaves 1 Dead
Early Tuesday shooting spree at a La Quinta Inn leaves 38-year-old man dead as police continue to search for the suspect.
AUSTIN, TEXAS — A North Austin shooting spree — the second such incident in the city within hours of each other — left a man dead from gunshot wounds, police said.
The violence unfolded along the 5800 block of Interstate 35 North just before 4 a.m., when police responded to multiple shots fire outside a La Quinta Inn at 5812 North IH 35, near the U.S. 290/Koenig Lane interchange.
Upon their arrival, police found two people suffering from gunshot wounds before they were transported to the hospital with critical injuries. One of the shooting victims, a 38-year-old man, later died from his injuries after being taken to the hospital, police said in a subsequent press advisory.

While still investigating the scene, police responded to East Riverside Drive amid reports of a vehicle left abandoned that could have been connected to the shooting. Police located the car, a black Dodge Charger, at the location. Through the investigation and witness statements, police learned the suspect is a black man still at large.
This was the second shooting to occur in Austin early Wednesday after a body was found at Givens Park in East Austin some five hours earlier. Police have since identified the deceased as Andre Lanier Davis Jr., 47, who they theorize may have been targeted in a robbery. A suspect in that case also has yet to be found.
