North Austin Standoff Ends After Suspect Dies Of Self-Inflicted Gunshot, Sheriff's Office Says

The incident at U.S. 183 and Ohlen Road on Friday afternoon brought out the SWAT team and lasted two hours before violent end.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — A man's standoff with police ended with the civilian's death by his own hand, according to a published report.

The standoff with SWAT team members started at a North Austin strip mall at around 3 p.m. and ended two hours later, the Travis County Sheriff's Office told the Austin American-Statesman. The location of the incident was a parking lot near a Target store at U.S. 183 and Ohlen Road.

Sheriff's officials said the unidentified man who was the subject of the standoff died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in ending the standoff, the newspaper reported.

It's unclear what sparked the incident, and the age and other identifying details related to the deceased man were not immediately released.

The incident ended after several hours with the man's arrest. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
