North Austin Target Set to Close in January

It's one of 13 locations closing across the country.

If you shop often at the Austin North East Target off of Interstate 35, come January you will have to find a new store.

It’s one of 13 target locations across the country that is closing Jan. 30, Kristy Welker, a spokeswoman for Target, told Patch in a statement.

“The decision to close a Target store is not made lightly. We typically decide to close a store after careful consideration of the long-term financial performance of a particular location. Typically, the decision to close a store is as a result of seeing several years of decreasing profitability,” Welker said in the statement.

The employees of the Target branch were notified of the closing on Monday. Eligible employees will be offered the option to transfer to different Target stores.

The closings set for January represent what could be tough times ahead for Target. This year the retailer pulled the plug on their only international stores in Canada, reported Fortune. After only 26-months Target decided to close all 133 stores opened in Canada, losing about $7 billion.
