North Austin Teacher Arrested For Alleged Sexual Assault Of Child

Pedro Esteban Rosas Martinez, 30, who classes at Dobie Middle School, is charged with continual assaults on 12-year-old student.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — A Dobie Middle School teacher was recently arrested after being charged with continually sexually abusing a student since May, according to newly released court documents.

Pedro Esteban Rosas Martinez, 30, was identified as the English as a Second Language teacher at the school located at 1200 E. Rundberg Lane who now faces serious jail time for his alleged actions. According to affidavit-based report in the Austin American-Statesman, the disgraced teacher is accused of placing his hand on the inner thigh of a 12-year-old student and touching her private parts.

Cellphone video the student provided campus police shows a man at a desk moving his hand between the child's knee and vaginal areas, according to the affidavit. After viewing the video, Austin ISD officials contacted the suspect, who was wearing the same clothes as the man in the video, according to the report.

The suspect was placed on administrative leave with pay on Oct. 31, according to a letter for parents written by Principal Jesse De La Huerta, according the the report. The child reportedly later told school officials that Rosas Martinez repeatedly assaulted her since early May when she was in sixth grade.

An arrest warrant was issued for the suspect Nov. 17. On Monday, school officials reportedly staged a meeting in the school library at 5:30 p.m. to discuss the matter with parents, including Spanish-speaking ones for whom simultaneous interpretation was to be provided.
