North Austin Traffic Stop Yields More Than 60 Pounds Of Cocaine, $4K In Cash

Police pulled over the driver of a pickup truck for a moving violation, finding coke throughout the car along with some $4,400 in cash.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — Police seized more than 60 pounds of cocaine and more than $4,000 in cash during a recent traffic stop, officials said on Tuesday.

The bust occurred along the 1000 block of North Interstate 35 on May 31, according to the Austin Police Department. Police say they stopped a 2012 Ford truck for a moving violation when contact as made with the driver and a passenger.

During the stop, police said one of the officers noticed a partially opened duffel bag in plain view on the floor board containing what appeared to be narcotics. The officer deployed his drug-sniffing canine for assistance, and the dog reacted to the presence of drugs, the APD said.

Some 16 kilos of cocaine were ultimately found, along with eight more kilos in the center console and six more underneath the back seat, police said. Inside the truck, police said they found nearly $4,400 in cash.

Driver Armando Lopez, 28, and passenger Rogelio Saucedo, Jr., 36, were promptly arrested and charged with Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance.
