Here are the top stories in North Austin-Pflugerville today:
- The Texas Economic Development Council recently awarded the Pflugerville Community Development Corp. (PCDC) the Economic Excellence award for 2021. This is the eighth year in a row that PCDC receives "an economic excellence award from a state entity." Amy Madison, PCDC executive director, said, "It is an honor for our board and staff to be recognized for the eighth year in a row by our economic development statewide organization for PCDC's continued focus on higher standards of excellence." She added, "It not only sets us apart but clearly demonstrates our commitment to responsible economic growth and development." For more details visit: (Community Impact Newspaper)
- St. Mary's Cemetery has experienced various restoration projects during the past few years, but the most recent project "involves replacing markers that have been damaged or removed and placing markers on graves where there previously were none." This project is funded by the Rotary Club of Pflugerville and on Monday, Feb. 28, they searched for unmarked graves at the cemetery by "using a ground-penetrating radar, a type of machine that detects empty spaces beneath the earth." Jeff Coleman, Rotary Club president, said "many of the cemetery's original markers were made of materials that did not last, leaving graves with markers that have deteriorated or vanished entirely after years without maintenance." On Saturday, March 5, Rotary Club members and volunteers plan to "gather at the cemetery to place temporary marble markers at any graves without markers. From there, the Rotary Club will work on acquiring more permanent granite markers to take their place." For more details visit: (Community Impact Newspaper)
- HTeaO, which "sells more than two dozen varieties of tea," is coming to Pflugerville this year and will be located at 710 Kay Lane. According to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, "construction for the $1 million building will be complete by November, but franchisee Bethany Beeman said she is hoping the location will be ready closer to August." Looking for a healthy alternative to that mid-week glass (or three) of wine? Our partners at Betera set out to create beverages that were sophisticated and flavorful enough to drink at cocktail hour but with zero hangover risk. (Their motto is "Drink like there's tomorrow.") Betera's drinks are designed by a Michelin-starred chef using natural botanicals — they're lightly effervescent, sippable, refreshingly bitter and at home in a stem glass or in a highball on the rocks.
Betera offers three recipes — Rhubarb-Hibiscus, Elderflower-Lime and Ginger-Orange. We've tried all three and loved them equally — we recommend the mixed case as a great place to start. Betera has extended their 15 percent discount on first orders to Daily readers, in appreciation for the enthusiastic response so far. Enter Patch15 at checkout and https://bit.ly/TryBetera.
