Pedestrian Dies In North Austin I-35 Collision

Pedestrian ran across the highway shortly before 8 p.m. on Monday before getting hit by a car and dying at the scene.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — A pedestrian was killed Monday evening after being hit by a car along Interstate 35, police disclosed on Wednesday.

The incident occurred at 7:44 p.m. along the 5300 block of I-35 southbound, police said. According to a preliminary investigation, a silver, 2010 Jaguar was driving southbound on I-35 when a pedestrian ran across the southbound lanes of the highway before being hit by the vehicle.

The unidentified pedestrian died at the scene. The driver remained on the scene and cooperated with police, and no charges are expected to be filed.

The case is still being investigated. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the APD Vehicular Homicide Unit Detectives at (512) 974-5594. Those with information also can submit tips by downloading APD’s mobile app, Austin PD, for free on iPhone and Android.

Police noted the incident represented Austin’s 61st fatal traffic crash and the 64th fatality of 2017. At this time in 2016, there were 64 fatal traffic crashes and 65 traffic fatalities, police added.
