Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Car In Austin On Last Day Of 2019

An unidentified man died a short time after arriving at the hospital after being ht by a car on the evening of Dec. 31, 2019.

AUSTIN, TX — Police on Thursday released details related to the death of a pedestrian fatally struck by a vehicle on the last year of 2019.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, Dec. 31, at 6:11 pm. at 6729 Manor Rd., police said in a press advisory. A preliminary police investigation showed that a 2008 maroon Cadillac was traveling northbound in the right lane of the street when it struck a pedestrian who was standing in the middle of the right lane.

After the unidentified man was struck, police said, he was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center where he died a short time later. Police noted the driver remained at the scene to assist in the police investigation, and no charges are expected to be filed.

The traffic death capped a particularly lethal year on city roads, a level up exponentially from the prior year. The Manor Road incident was the 86th fatal traffic crash of 2019,police said, resulting in 88 fatalities. In 2018, there were 73 fatal traffic crashes resulting in 74 traffic fatalities, police said.
