Pedestrian Killed After Being Struck By Car In North Austin

Man in his 40s was dead at the scene by the time medics arrived in second pedestrian-car collision in as many days in Austin.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — A pedestrian was killed in a early Sunday along Interstate 35 after being hit by a vehicle in North Austin, officials said.

According to Austin-Travis County EMS medics, emergency crews responded to the 9300 block of the southbound lanes of I-35, near Barwood Park, at around 5:30 a.m. Once there, medics found a man in his 40s dead at the scene.

The incident marked the second time in as many days that a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle. A woman in her 20s was struck near the 6300 block of South Congress Avenue, leading to her hospitalization at St. David's Medical Center with serious injuries.

The two incidents add to a grim and growing list of pedestrians either injured or killed along I-35. In the pat few months alone, at least a dozen such cases have been reported in the Austin area. Pedestrian-vehicle collisions have become so common, Texas Department of Public Safety officials recently launched a public awareness campaign aimed at reducing the toll.
