Pedestrian Killed By Car As He Rushed To Catch Bus In N. Austin

Unidentified Hispanic man ran along North Lamar Boulevard early Thursday before being struck by hit-and-run driver.

AUSTIN, TX — A pedestrian was killed by a hit-and-run driver as he ran to catch a bus in North Austin early Thursday, police said.

The incident occurred on May 2 at around 6:10 a.m. along the 8700 block of North Lamar Boulevard when an unidentified Hispanic man was running from west to east on Lamar toward a Capital Metro bus stop, police said. The man was then struck by a vehicle as he approached the bus stop before the driver fled the scene.

The man who was hit was transported to Dell Seton Medical where he died upon arrival, according to police. The driver of the vehicle that hit the man fled the scene. Police ask the public to be on the lookout for a dark colored, small SUV or truck that possibly has damage to the right, front end.

The incident marked Austin’s 25th fatal traffic crash of 2019, resulting in 26 fatalities this year, police noted. At this time in 2018, officials added, there were 21 fatal traffic crashes and 22 traffic fatalities.
