Pflugerville City Council Candidate Explores Recount
The election for the fifth seat on the Pflugerville City Council was decided by only 44 votes.

The loser in Pflugerville’s closest race on election day is exploring the possibility of a recount.
The race for the fifth seat on the Pflugerville City Council came down to the wire Tuesday night, but ultimately Rudy Metayer lost to Mike Heath by a margin of 44 votes.

Now, Metayer, a lawyer with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, wants to make sure all of the ballots cast on Election Day have been canvassed correctly.

“We just want to ensure that the voters have been represented properly and once those ballots have been canvassed at that point Mr. Metayer will weigh his options,” a spokesman from Metayer’s campaign told Patch in a message.
The spokesman said it was the understanding of the campaign that some provincial ballots have not yet been canvassed and the campaign also wants to make sure all of the mail-in ballots have been correctly counted by Travis County officials.

Despite the extremely close election, Travis County election officials are confident the count is correct.
Michael Winn, director of elections for Travis County, told Community Impact that there is no margin for error in the count for the fifth seat on the Pflugerville City Council.
“No, the votes weren’t miscounted,” Winn said. “We looked at that race, he did lose that race by 44 votes.”
