Pflugerville Commissions Mass Transit Plan Through Capital Metro

The city has also hired a transportation consultant.

The City of Pflugerville is taking steps to become more connected to Austin than ever starting as soon as 2017.

In October the city council voted to approve a contract with transit consultant The Goodman Corp. worth $167,000, reported Community Impact Newspaper. The consultant will help the city devise plans to create a transportation center that would resemble The Triangle in Austin.

So why build a transportation center?

Pflugerville is the latest of several cities in Central Texas exploring a connection with the state capital through a mass transit options provided by Capital Metro.

“Other cities in the region are looking for ways to participate in the implementation of that (public transportation) piece, as is Pflugerville,” Assistant City Manager Trey Fletcher told Community Impact. “I really perceive Pflugerville as sort of the missing link for some of these communities already starting their transportation studies.”

Pflugerville has commissioned a transit development plan from Capitol Metro, which Michelle Meaux, regional coordination planner for Capitol Metro, told Community Impact she hopes to complete by April.

If Pflugerville adopts the plan, Capitol Metro service from the city to Austin could be ready by 2017.

Other Central Texas cities have commissioned transit development plans with Captiol Metro such as Georgetown, Hutto and Buda, Meaux told Community Impact.

The transit plans are funded by a federal program, with local jurisdictions putting up about 20 percent of the total cost. For Pflugerville, that meant paying $17,005 for the transit study. If the plan is adopted, federal funding will be used to cover the costs of implementation.
