Pflugerville Fire Department To Participate In Pace Bend Park Prescribed Burn

Local firefighters will assist in the prescribed burn that is scheduled to start on Tuesday morning.

Pflugerville, TX -- Members of the Pflugerville Fire Department will participate in a prescribed burn at Pace Bend Park beginning on Tuesday morning, officials said.

Travis County Parks plans to conduct the prescribed burn at the park between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on July 12. The prescribed burn will take approximately two to three hours to complete, officials said.

Travis County Parks will conduct the burn alongside personnel from the Lake Travis Fire Rescue, Pflugerville Fire Department, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

The prescribed burn includes 14 acres of grasslands and will help maintain these plant communities by removing invading shrubs, reducing the number of exotic species, and enhancing the health and diversity of the native plant community, officials explained.

"The fire can be completed with any wind direction; however, predicted southerly winds will carry the smoke to the north across Lake Travis and towards the communities to the north, specifically those areas west of Lago Vista," parks officials noted. "Some smoke impacts are expected to the north, but they should be relatively light and of a short duration."

While the park will remain open during the burn, some portions of the park -- specifically Kate and Johnson’s Cove -- will be closed, post-burn, for part of the week.

Pace Bend Park is located at 2805 Pace Bend Road North in Spicewood.
