PFLUGERVILLE, TX — City officials announced the appointment of an interim chief of police—13-year Austin Police Department veteran Jessica Robledo—for whom a pinning ceremony will be staged featuring Houston Police Department Chief Art Acevedo.

Acevedo, the former Austin Police Department chief, will pin the badge on Robledo during a ceremony scheduled on Friday. Robledo has more than 28 years of public service, including 13 years of executive level leadership at the APD, city officials said in a news release. Officials added that Robledo has distinguished herself by promoting the use of data-driven techniques to assist in developing and supporting departmental efforts.

Robledo also places a premium on community policing, and has promoted outreach with numerous organizations as key to building bridges with law enforcement.

Robledo is a law enforcement trailblazer. She first joined the Austin police force in 1988 before being named assistant chief in 2013. She was the department's first Hispanic assistant chief and the sole woman in the executive ranks during her tenure. The appointment came on the heels of retirement of another woman, Patti Robinson, who was the only other woman to have served as assistant chief.

In her interim role, she will fill in the role of chief following the October retirement Chuck Hooker, who is set to retire the same day of Robledo's interim appointment. Hooker capped off a 33-year law enforcement career in Pflugerville in stepping down.

The pinning ceremony for Robledo is scheduled to take place at 2 p.m. Friday (Jan. 6) at the Pflugerville Justice Center. Acevedo will be joined by other regional law enforcement agency representatives at the event in feting Robledo.

City Manager Brandon Wade lauded Robledo's personal and professional attributes in a prepared statement: “Jessica Robledo has the drive, determination and experience that the Pflugerville Police Department needs to begin implementation of 21st century policing,” he said. “I am excited that she is available to assist the city during this transition.”
