Pflugerville ISD Opts To Re-Open Wednesday Amid Winter Storm

Move comes as other school districts take a wait-and-see attitude centered on weather before determining to re-open for business.

PFLUGERVILLE, TX — Pflugerville ISD officials have opted to re-open schools on Wednesday after having closed on Tuesday amid a frigid winter storm.

Multiple school districts opted to close down on Tuesday as a winter storm blasted into the region, bringing with it sub-freezing temperatures resulting in icy roads. But with weather steadily warming up, some school districts have opted to re-open for business on Wednesday.

Pflugerville ISD is one such school district: "All Pflugerville ISD campuses will open at regular times on Wednesday, Jan. 17," officials wrote on Twitter. "PfISD personnel drove transportation routes throughout the day and no precipitation is anticipated over the next 24 hours. We encourage students and staff to dress warmly as temperatures will be cold."

Despite a warming trend, parents (and all motorists) are urged to slow down and keep a safe distance with the car in front of them given the possibility of ice on roadways. For a list of street closures, visit DriveTexas.org.

While temperatures will reach the 50s by Thursday, we're not out of the frigid woods yet. Freezing temperatures are expected late Wednesday. Texas Department of Transportation crews treated major roadways (mainly Interstate 35) to mitigate ice formation as early as Sunday, which likely diminished traffic collisions, but drivers should still be vigilant due to patches of lingering ice on the roads.
