Pflugerville ISD Superintendent Released From Contract Immediately Rather Than At Term's End
Last December, Alex Torrez said he would resign effective September 2017, but board releases him early to allow for "smooth transition."

PFLUGERVILLE, TX — Alex E. Torrez, the Pflugerville ISD superintendent of schools who was placed on administrative leave after announcing his resignation effective in December, has instead been immediately released from his contract effective immediately, district officials said Friday.
Torrez previously announced his resignation this past December effective at the end of his contract term, which was scheduled for September. The board of trustees never disclosed what led to the superintendent's resignation and subsequent leave of absence with pay.
Information related to Torrez has seemingly been scrubbed from the Pflugerville ISD website as of Friday, attempts to access it met with a notation that reads: "This page is currently unavailable."

In a press advisory, Pflugerville ISD officials said the decision to quicken Torrez's departure would allow the district to begin their search for a replacement right away.
"In an effort to ensure a smooth transition of district leadership, Torrez and the district have reached an agreement which allows Dr. Torrez the ability to immediately pursue other interests and permits the board to pursue hiring another superintendent during the upcoming spring hiring season," board members wrote in a prepared statement. "The board and Dr. Torrez have entered into the agreement believing it is in their respective best interests and in the best interest of the district."

Board members thanked Torrez for his leadership shown during his tenure. Speaking on behalf of the ousted superintendent, they also conveyed his gratitude for those connected to the district for their support.
"Dr. Torrez would like to express his heartfelt appreciation to the staff and community for its support of the district’s programs and services during his term as superintendent," the statement read.
Torrez launched his career in education as a middle school teacher in Lubbock in 1987 before taking principal jobs at high schools in Lubbock and Marble Falls.
