Pflugerville Officials Confirm Texas Rangers Investigating Missing Cash From Police Evidence Room
A city spokeswoman confirmed an investigation has been launched into the missing money case, but wouldn't be concluded until January.

PLUGERVILLE, TX -- City officials confirmed Wednesday that the Texas Rangers are investigating the disappearance of an undisclosed amount of money from the Pflugerville Police Department evidence room.
In an email to Patch, city spokeswoman Terri Toledo confirmed an investigation into the missing money had been launched. "I can confirm that an external investigation is going on conducted by the Texas Rangers," Toledo said in an email in response to questions. "When the report is complete, it will be made public."
Toledo provided no further details, including the site of the stolen money. ButPlugervilleCity Manager Brandon Wade told KXAN-TV that the money was taken from the police department's evidence room.

“We discovered the issue based on a claim for return of evidence from an individual,” Wade told the news station. “There was a case that was being investigated and a bunch of evidence was gathered up and for various reasons that case did not move forward.”
Wade declined to confirm the amount of money taken, saying he was unable to disclose that until after a January hearing before a municipal court judge for the person making the claim as to why he or she is entitled to the cash. Wade told KXAN the money had been stored by police for several years.

Wade conceded he's ruffled some feathers in securing the aid of the Texas Rangers into the local matter, but said he did so in the interest of full transparency.
“Because I brought outside help in and everybody including me was a suspect, I upset some people, some retired officers with that,” he told KXAN.
