Pflugerville Officials To Discuss Fate Of Hawaiian Falls After Payment Defaults

Company now owes $400K to city in violation of a previous agreement, prompting officials to explore alternate operators.

PFLUGERVILLE, TX — Important city action could take place on Thursday centered on the Hawaiian Falls water park — its future now hanging in the balance since failing to make some $400,000 worth of payments to the city as per a previous agreement, officials said.

After more than a year of deliberation, the Pflugerville Community Development Corp. will be presenting options to the Pflugerville City Countil regarding the water park's future after its owner failed to make agreed-upon payments to the city. Source Horizon LLC, which owns Hawaiian Falls Waterparks, failed to make payments to PCDC as outlined in a negotiated agreement, city officials said in a news release. Those defaults now yield an opportunity for the city and PCDC to explore alternative park operators.

“Our goal with the waterpark has always been to provide a positive experience for residents and guests, and while we have not fully achieved that goal, opportunities exist for us to maximize the guest experience,” PCDC Executive Director Amy Madison said in a prepared statement. “The PCDC is fully aligned with the Pflugerville City Council in making sure our park meets and exceeds all expectations and is an excellent representation of our community.”

For more than a year, PCDC staff and city staff have researched alternatives to Source Horizon and Hawaiian Falls, officials said. The council will consider new options for management of the water park this week. Wade said city taxpayer dollars are not part of the scenarios being considered, officials added.

“We share the community’s concerns about Hawaiian Falls as it is currently operated,” City Manager Brandon Wade said. “With the right operator, we see potential for a beautiful water park offering a safe, family-friendly environment and high-quality guest experiences. The City Council and PCDC are working together to find the best solution for Pflugerville.”
