Residents are urged to boil water before consumption to eradicate potential bacteria, microbes after Monday morning leak.

UPDATED: A boil water notice for Pflugerville residents was lifted on Tuesday morning after city and Manville Water Supply Corp. officials deemed the drinking water to be safe to drink. Lab results taken after a loss of pressure and leakage indicate the water is now safe to drink without having to first boil it to kill microbes and bacteria that may have formed.

Residents of some 2,400 homes were previously asked to boil water prior to consumption after a water line on Windmill Ranch Road broke early Monday morning. Those with questions can call the city at 512-990-6400.

Later in the morning, customers were asked to boil their water prior to consumption to ensure destruction of any harmful bacteria and other microbes. All water for cooking, drinking and making ice should be boiled and cooled prior to use, city officials urged.

"The water should be brought to a vigorous, rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes," city officials wrote on the municipal website. "In lieu of boiling, you may purchase bottled water or obtain water from another suitable source."

City officials said they would post a subsequent notification when the boil order is suspended and the water is once again safe for consumption. Residents should monitor the city website at pflugervilletx.gov, the official Facebook page, Nextdoor and other social media pages for updates.
