Pflugerville Officials Mulling Boundary Changes Ahead Of Two New School Openings

PFLUGERVILLE, TX — School district officials are poised to open two new schools in the upcoming 2017-18 academic year, and invite public input into several school boundaries expected to change as a result.

The boundary changes would create enrollment for the planned high school and elementary school. At the same time, enrollment at existing schools would be balanced out.

Among the proposed changes are sending some Kelly Lane Middle School students to Park Crest and Pflugerville middle schools, shifting some freshmen at Hendrickson High School to Weiss High School, the district’s new high school. Additionally, some students at Riojas, Rowe Lane and Dearing elementary schools could experience boundary changes to accommodate the new elementary school, Vernagene Mott Elementary.

Another proposed calls for transferring some students from Highland Park Elementary, which is currently overcrowded. District officials have proposed easing congestion by moving a group of students to Brookhollow Elementary.

Pflugerville ISD officials staged the first of a series of meetings on Nov. 30 at the Hendrickson High School Performing Arts Center to discuss the boundary change plans. There are several more such meetings planned, with members of the public invited to provide feedback.

Those meetings are:

• December 5: Riojas Elementary School Cafeteria

• December 7: Kelly Lane Middle School Cafeteria
• December 8: Rowe Lane Elementary School Cafeteria
• January 4: Park Crest Middle School Cafeteria
• January 5: Highland Park Elementary School Cafeteria
• January 10: Pflugerville Administration Building Board Room
