The "crash" scene will be staged in the front student parking lot, and the STAR Flight helicopter is scheduled to land in the large field next to Kelly Lane Middle School. The hectic (but thankfully make-believe) event should last about 45 minutes, from 12 pm. to 12:45 p.m., according to city officials.
The event might be make-believe, but it's decidedly serious. Past mock scenes have dramatically illustrated the tragedy that ensues from drunk driving, raising young people's awareness of its dangers in a way that is far from abstract.
