Pflugerville Park Playground Temporarily Closed For Renovation

Playground area at 515 City Park Road closed until mid-May for revamping ensuring it remains 'jewel that is Pfluger Park,' official says.

PFLUGERVILLE, TX — Construction and renovation work has begun at Pfluger Park, prompting the temporarily closure of the recreational area on Monday.

The Pfluger Park playground area, 515 City Park Road, will close the week of March 19 until mid-May to allow for construction of a new playground, a pavilion, site furnishings and added accessibility, city officials said via a press advisory. The cornerstone of this project, the new playground, will provide a safe and accessible play space and include elements honoring the history of the park," officials added.

“The Pfluger Park playground is the city’s largest and most popular in our inventory," Parks & Recreation Director James Hemenes said in a prepared statement. "It has served our community for the past twenty years and needs to be replaced."

Hemenes credited members of the city council and grant support from the Pflugerville Community Development Corporation (PCDC), as catalysts sparking the revamping. By virtue of that support "The new playground will be a more prominent and special feature befitting the jewel that is Pfluger Park,” he said.

The $240,000 funding for this project comes from Parks and Recreation’s annual operations and maintenance budget and a PCDC grant. While the playground area is under construction, the Pfluger Grove Picnic Area, the basketball court, sand volleyball courts and trails will remain open, officials said. Other nearby playground options include Gilleland Creek Park (700 Railroad Ave.), Bohls Park (200 Immanuel Rd.), Heritage Park (901 Old Austin Hutto Rd.) and Moose Park (1218 W. Settlers Valley Dr.).
