Pflugerville Pfolks Pfind 'The Pfield' Pfine Name Choice For Stadium

School district officials approve name in keeping with local custom of adding a silent "p" in pfront of words as in "Pflugerville."

PFLUGERVILLE, TX -- Like the makers of the Pfizer Pfaucet, municipal officials enjoy playing of the town's silent "p" with an annual festival dubbed Deutschen Pfest, a Pfoundation Pfling fundraiser and other plays on words.

Once, after an electrical short circuit propted the building's evacuation, a city spokesperson updated residents via email that the problem had been "pfixed."

So it should come as no surprise that Pflugerville school district board trustees have chosen "The Pfield" as the name for its newest stadium. The board recently approved the name after a workshop and submissions from residents.

The stadium is being built on the northwest corner of West Pecan Street and Swenson Farms Boulevard across from Pflugerville High School.

"I felt like the brand of The Pfield was truly unique,’” trustee Carol Fletcher told the Austin American-Statesman.

Beyond a mere play on the f-sounding "pf" of the town's name, the stadium extends the branding of the city, Fletcher said.

Yet the thought process was not a reflexive move to capitalize on the unique spelling, but methodically considered. An entry suggesting Veterans Pfield was discounted because the playfulness was at odds to honoring veterans, Fletcher explained.

“I personally feel if we call it The Pfield — kind of like the ballpark in Arlington — there isn’t any district in the state of Texas that anyone is going to be confused about what stadium that is,” Fletcher told the daily.

Board President Vernagene Mott added the name got an endorsement from former Pflugerville student John Bohls during an email exchange.

“He said (The Pfield is) simple, it’s quirky, it’s fun, it’s modern, it’s unique,” Mott told the Statesman. “It’s concise and relevant to Pflugerville ISD without forcing anything extra into the name.”

The stadium is expected to be opened next February. And it's a sure bet that pfootball will be played there on Pfridays.
