Pflugerville Police Encourage Safe Driving

Officials released the results of an initiative intended to encourage the use of seat belts while discouraging unsafe driving practices.

PFLUGERVILLE, TX — Police released the results of a December initiative intended to encourage the use of seat belts while discouraging unsafe driving practices.

The initiative is part of the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) Selective Traffic Enforcement Programs (STEP) grant, which funds proactive traffic enforcement. Last year, the Pflugerville Police Department received $12,000 from the STEP grant that is now being invested into education and enforcement to make Pflugerville streets safer.

Last month, Pflugerville Police made 862 traffic stops in the most recent effort. Twenty-five of these stops, or 2.9 percent of the total, were made because of the extra funding the STEP grant provides. These stops resulted in citations or warnings for seat belt violations, speed violations, intersection traffic control violations and hazardous moving violations, police said in a press advisory.
