Pflugerville Police On The Lookout For 'Cool Moves'

From June 1 to Aug. 31, officers will issue 'tickets' to kids displaying safe behavior that can be redeemed for ice cream. Ice cream!

PFLUGERVILLE, TX — Kids, the cops are watching you. But their focus is in a good way, as Pflugerville police will be on the lookout for children displaying going about their summer activities in a safe manner, with treats distributed for such exemplary behavior.

From June 1 through Aug. 31, police officers will be on the lookout for children displaying “Cool Moves,” including looking both ways before crossing the street, wearing a helmet while riding a bike or skateboard, using hand signals while riding a bike and using crosswalks.

Children “caught” practicing these safe behaviors will be given a ticket by the police officers. But this is no ordinary ticket, oh no. Instead, it can be redeemed for free ice cream cone from participating partners.

The initiative is an annual undertaking by police to promote safe behavior among the city's younger residents. This year, the program is supported with free ice cream cones from Andy’s Frozen Custard, Baskin Robbins, Cece’s Froyo, Dairy Queen, McDonald’s, Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt, and free kids’ meals from Zaxby’s.

Each summer Pflugerville officers dole out more than 500 tickets for free ice cream to safety-conscious children. For more information on this effort, visit www.pflugervilletx.gov/coolmoves.
