Pflugerville Police Overwhelmed With Shows Of Support After Dallas Tragedy

The site where five officers lost their lives may be 200 miles away, but the local police are close to residents' hearts.

Pflugerville, TX -- Dallas -- The site of the killing of five officers at the hands of a gunman Thursday night may be nearly 200 miles away, but the police officers in Pflugerville are close to residents' hearts.

In the hours after the horrific news broke of the slain officers, Pflugerville residents have been dropping by the local police department in spontaneous acts of support for their own officers. Some bore gifts in the form of pastries and other treats, while others dropped by offering supportive words and hugs.

Those random acts of gratitude weren't lost on the Pflugerville rank and file in the midst of grief for their counterparts in Dallas.

"The outpouring of support we have seen from our community after yesterday's tragedy speaks volumes for Police Departments and Law Enforcement Officers everywhere," Pflugerville police wrote on their Facebook page. "Words cannot express how grateful we are to protect and serve in a community that can pull together and show this kind of solidarity in the face of such senseless actions. We thank you so much for all the phone calls, messages, emails, and gifts today."

They were simple gestures from residents, but to the officers they meant a lot.

"These small acts of kindness go so far in helping our officers remember why they come to work every night and day," Pflugerville police wrote. "It helps our officers keep strength during times like these. Not enough can be said to express our appreciation to this family and our community for showing so much love and support today."
