Pflugerville Residents Urge Officials To Name School After Longtime Board Member
More than 750 signatures have been gathered in an online petition to name the newest high school after Vernagene Mott.

PFLUGERVILLE, TX -- Several residents have asked school leaders to consider naming the Pflugerville ISD's fourth high school after board president Vernagene Mott, according to a published report.
The Austin American-Statesman reports the suggestion comes as school officials ask for help from the public in naming the new campus, along with the 21st elementary school. Both are expected to open next year.
One speaker at a council meeting earlier this month noted Mott's support not only of her child who is a senior at Pflugerville High School, but the community at large over 35 yeasrs of community service.

An online petition has been circulated supporting naming the new high school after Mott, the paper noted. So far, it has gathered more than 750 signatures.

The one dissenting voice was that of Joe H. Weiss, a member of the lifelong Pflugerville Weiss family. He noted the new campus slated to be built at Weiss Lane is on land his family bought in in 1875, and should be named after them.
