Pflugerville School Board Opts To Appoint Former Member To Unexpired Term
Rather than stage costly special election, trustees decided it would be better to appoint someone until a candidate runs for a full term.

PFLUGERVILLE, TX -- The Plugerville school board has opted to appoint a former trustee to fill an unexpired term on the board left vacant after a resignation.
Cynthia Graves resigned last month to focus on her growing dental practice, although her term wasn't set to expire until next year. Rather than stage a costly special election with a low turnout, the decision was made to appoint a former trustee to fill the seat until the next election scheduled in May, the Austin American-Statesman reported.
“I don’t want a special election because it’s an unnecessary cost on taxpayers,” trustee Carol Fletcher said, as quoted in the Statesman during the last regular meeting. “Holding our own election is somewhere in the $100,000 range. There’s no reason for two elections.”
