Pflugerville Selling Rain Barrels In Promoting Water Recycling
Barrels bearing 50-plus gallons come in a variety of colors from beige to terra cotta.
PFLUGERVILLE, TX -- The City of Pflugerville is in the rain barrels business.
In an effort to promote the use of recycled water, the city has a couple of models for sale to interested residents. The Springsaver 50-gallon barrel is $64.99, while the Rainsaver 54-gallon version is $84.99. Those interested can order online at www.pflugervilletx.gov/rainbarrel.
And the rain barrels don’t have to be strictly utilitarian either, but picked for their aesthetics. Rain barrels are available in six different colors “...to better match your home and landscape,” city officials wrote on the municipal website.

“In conjunction with the city’s water conservation initiatives, the barrels provide an environmental collection of water for residents,” water conservation manager Darrell Winslett said in a prepared statement. “The barrels are cost-effective as they provide an opportunity to reuse rainwater for lawns and gardens instead of pulling the water from the city’s water supply.”
Since rain barrel pick-up is held in conjunction with the Public Works Department annual open house, barrel buyers are encouraged to tour the Public Works facility when picking up their rain barrel on Friday, May 13, city officials said.
