Pflugerville Water Safe To Drink, Unaffected By Austin Flood Woes

Officials seek to assuage residents on the safety of their drinking water despite boil-water notices in neighboring Austin after flooding.

PFLUGERVILLE, TEXAS Water in Pflugerville is safe to drink, despite a wide-ranging boil-water notice in neighboring Austin where the area's reservoirs have been compromised with flood-induced debris, mud and silt.

Water utility officials on Sunday issued a plea with water customers to reduce their water usage as they act to clean their water plants that has made its contents cloudy. Residents also have been urged to boil their water prior to drinking it or using it to cook or make ice.

But in Pflugerville, city officials said Monday, the water safe: "The City of Pflugerville water is safe to drink. Due to the benefits of the Lake Pflugerville surface water and our treatment process, there is no concern for Pflugerville water customers at this time."

City officials suggested residents in Pflugerville should be skeptical if anyone suggests a need to boil water locally as those living in Austin have been directed to do: "If you receive water from a source other than the City of Pflugerville, please contact them directly for additional information about your water. City of Pflugerville water customers are NOT affected by Austin's boil water alert."
