Pflugerville Woman Leads Police On Chase, Rolls Car Over With 7-Year-Old Son Inside

The New Year's Day chase lands Brittany Michelle Perkins, 28, behind bars on combined bail set at $100,000.

PFLUGERVILLE, TX — A woman was booked into Travis County Jail on Monday after police said she led them on a New Year's Day chase before rolling her vehicle with her young son inside.

Brittany Michelle Perkins, 28, was charged with seven separate charges as a result of her actions, the Austin American-Statesman reported. As detailed in an arrest affidavit, police were called to an apartment in the 15800 block of Foothill Farms Loop at around 11:30 p.m. after getting reports of an intoxicated woman.

Police spotted her car and attempted to pull her over after she stopped in the middle of Pflugerville Loop, blocking both lanes of traffic in the process, according to the report. Police said Perkins then continued her flight from police until losing control of her vehicle in the 1600 block of Grand Avenue Parkway, rolling the vehicle with her seven-year-old son inside.

After the car landed on its tires after the rollover, Perkins is accused of briefly resuming her evasion of police. She finally pulled into a shopping center in the 1700 block of Grand Avenue Parkway where police pulled her out of the vehicle and handcuffed her, according to the affidavit.

According to jail records, Perkins was assessed seven different charges: two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon; assault on a family member; possession of a controlled substance; endangering a child; evading arrest; and driving with an invalid license.

Perkins and her child were transported to St. David’s North Austin Medical Center for treatment. The child was later released into the custody of his grandparents, and Perkins was taken to the jail after being released, according to the report.

Although details weren't disclosed as to what led to the incident, the newspaper noted a separate affidavit indicates Perkins had allegedly attacked a man with a broomstick and frying pan at the same address where police were called the night before. The pair had dated on and off for about a year, according to the affidavit.

According to jail records, Perkins is being held at the Travis County Jail on a combined bail of more than $100,000.
