Pflugerville Woman Says Fiancé Tried To Light Her On Fire After Argument

Joshua Collins, 26, has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for the July 4 attack.

Pflugerville, TX -- A man was arrested on Monday after being accused of allegedly attacking his fiancé before trying to light her on fire, a news station reported.

Police said the incident occurred at around 2:36 a.m. on July 4 at Broken Feather Trail, KXAN reported.

Pflugerville police were alerted to the scene after receiving calls about a woman screaming in the street.

The woman told police her boyfriend, Joshua Collins, 26, attacked her when she didn't allow him to use her car, the station reported. According to an arrest affidavit, Collins is said to have poured lighter fluid on the woman while saying he would kill her.

Initially, the man allegedly tried using a cigarette unsuccessfully and later retrieved a lighter from inside the house. The woman told police she was able to escape after feigning unconsciousness, going to a neighbor's house for help.

Police said Collins fled the scene, but was later arrested. He has since been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second degree felony.
