North Austin Suspect Arrested After Cops See Him Stomping Man Who Ultimately Died (Updated)

Police responded to unrelated call at 2500 block of West Anderson Lane when they saw Ross C. Barrow attacking motionless man on the ground.

UPDATE: On Monday, Aug. 15., police identified the victim of an assault on Sunday as Alan Albert Niedermann. He was 57 years old at the time of his death.

Police responded to the scene of the attack while on an unrelated call along the 2500 block of West Anderson Lane, observing Ross. C. Barrow, 30, stomping and kicking Niedermann while the victim was motionless on the ground. The suspect was promptly arrested, subsequently charged with 1st degree murder and is currently being held at the Travis County Jail on $100,000 bail.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — Police on an unrelated call Sunday evening happened to come across a suspect stomping on a man who was motionless on the ground who ultimately died, leading to an arrest.

Officers responded to the 2500 block of West Anderson Lane handling an unrelated emergency call when they noticed two men fighting. Officers ran toward the violent scene where they found Ross. C. Barrow, 30, stomping an kicking a 57-year-old man laying on the ground motionless.

Barrow was immediately placed in custody. The victim died at the scene at around 9:35 a.m. despite efforts by Austin-Travis County EMS medics to save him, police said.

Late Monday, police said the Travis County Medical Examiner’s office determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma, with the manner of death ruled homicide. After the findings, an arrest commitment was obtained for 1st Degree Murder against Barrow, police said. Barrow is now at the Travis County Jail with bond set at $100,000, according to police.

The victim's identity was withheld pending notification of next of kin, police said. Homicide detectives continue to investigate the case.
